You decide to find the dog’s owner. You take Jewel by the collar and start walking, she follows along happily. You backtrack until you find the community board at the entrance to the park. Sure enough there’s a lost dog flyer with a picture of Jewel staring back at you. The bottom of the poster gives the owner’s name as Allie Harrison and a phone number. You call the number.
“Hello? This is Allie.”
“Hi Allie. I’ve found your dog.”
“Jewel?!? Oh my god! Where are you? I’ll come right away.”
Jewel barks excitedly at the sound of Allie’s voice.
“I’m at the entrance to the city park.”
“I’ll be right there.”
You sit down and pet Jewel while you wait. She’s really a sweet dog. When Allie arrives you recognize her as the girl you saw hanging posters this morning. She drops to her knees and hugs Jewel tight. Then she hugs you. There are tears in her eyes and a wide smile on her face. She offers you $20 as a reward but you turn it down. You do, however, take the homemade chocolate chip muffins that she offers with the money.
You wave goodbye to Allie and Jewel and head back to your apartment. When you get there you settle on the couch and eat a muffin. It’s absolutely delicious. You decide you could probably have a second one.
